ECO-ECM process tracks modification folders in simple or complex cases. Users can analyze the modification (e.g., where used case, impact analysis, and result simulation) and gain a global view of the ECO folder before taking any decision.

The process has made of three major steps:
- Creation of the ECO folder
- ECO Instruction (this stage can have several participants and multiple "loops"). As an increased complexity this ECO can also be tightly linked to the instruction of one or several other evolution folders and associated ECO.
- Find the impact of modifications, for instance on contracts or product elements.
- Compare product status before and after modifications. Build the modification folder and all the elements (parts, service items, etc.) that will be impacted.
- Review associated documents.
- ECO validation (unless cancelled), after the end all the ECO scheduled actions (including document update).
- ECO checking (this stage can have several participants and multiple "loops").
- ECO diffusion to the owner of the part and of the documents concerned by the ECO.
Evolution and variation instructions inside the process will drive the configuration data that will change (e.g., numbering, revision, status, links) according to the different steps of the process.
